History EditThe Grand Duchy of Kleve Berg consisted of the territories between the French Empire at the Rhine river and the German Kingdom of Westphalia. It was established by Napoleon 15 March 1806 after the Battle of Austerlitz (1805) and was under French rule until the Battle of Leipzig when the French army withdrew and the area was became part of the Prussian Province of Jülich-Cleves-Berg. It was also a member of the Confederation of the Rhine.

Grand Duke Napoléon Louis Bonaparte – 1809 to 1813
As with many French client states the Army of Berg used the French military model which led to similar uniform patterns and equipment.
