The Kingdom of Saxony gained independence from the Holy Roman Empire and was an ally of the Kingdom of Prussia until the Battle of Jena 1906 at which point it became a member of the Confederation of the Rhine. One of the last German states to stand by France during the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 at which point it lost 40% of its land but remained a kingdom until 1918.
